MY HOME BASE IS GONE My home-base is gone No place to house my past With no look back I've been forgotten Brief memories rarely last Moved, lost, dead, displaced, indifferent All those I admired Thinking I'd come back to thank them But that chance expired My photo hangs on nobody's wall Other than work I get no calls The Christmas cards stopped coming long ago Unremembered me I live among cool strangers Pariah from my years of wandering No roots, no ties Forgotten in the place I was raised My home-base is gone No place to house my past With no look back I've been forgotten Brief memories rarely last Houses peopled with intruders Graveyard filled with friends Never looking back once I left Brought a sorry end Nothing I own is out of my home All I create remains unknown I'll be erased when I'm inanimate A faded memory I didn't mean to but I isolated myself Forgetting who, what, and where To me held pure importance I should have known that things would change But so out of touch I wasn't prepared February 2022, Ash Hall
